Progress” blue and yellow scheme, they were used through the 1970s before being retired or relegated
to MOW service.

These 70-ton capacity 5,219 cubic-foot boxcars were built in 1978 and are designated BS79 by Norfolk Southern. Norfolk Southern was formed in 1982 and grew substantially after the acquisition of roughly half of Conrail in 1999.

These 50’ rib side box cars with single door without roofwalk are black with white lettering and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1975 for Norfolk & Western these boxcars were used for food grade loading only. Norfolk & Western was a Class 1 railroad which operated on the east coast from 18381982. It then combined with Southern Railway to form Norfolk Southern.

These 50’ rib side box cars with plug door and no roofwalk are green with white lettering and run on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1966 for New York Central Railroad, this car featured a cushioned underframe and DFB loaders. New York Central was founded in 1853 and continued until the merger with Pennsylvania Railroad in 1968 to form Penn Central.
