This 40’ wood reefer is brown with yellow decorated sides and runs on Bettendorf trucks. The Illinois Canning Co. was founded in 1875 by S.S. McCall in the town of Hoopeston, Illinois. Later changing its name to “Joan of Arc,” the company produced a variety of food products, including Fancy Red Kidney Beans, and Fancy Country Gentleman Sugar Corn.

This 40’ wood reefer is brown with grey decorated sides and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1927, this car was leased by North American Refrigerator Line to the Chicago-based American Cranberry Exchange in 1933. Used through the 1940s to ship “Eatmor” brand cranberries, it was equipped with permanent floor racks and two, 235 cubic foot ice bunkers.

this North Western Refrigerator Line owned reefer was assigned to Stokely Brothers and Company in the early 1930s, receiving a new paint job and reporting marks.

This 40’ wood reefer is brown with grey sides and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in July 1928, this North Western Refrigerator Line owned reefer was assigned to the Wisconsin Canners Association carrying advertisements for Corn, Beets, Beans, Kraut, and “the Best Canned Peas from Wisconsin.”

This 40’ wood reefer is brown with yellow sides and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in the 1920s, this car was owned by North American Dispatch and was decorated to advertise “Mrs. Tucker’s Shortening.” North American Dispatch was founded in the early 1900s and was headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and leased tank cars and refrigerator cars.

This 40’ wood reefer is is brown with grey sides and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in the 1910s, this car was decorated for the Mid-West Catsup Company and owned by North American Dispatch. NADX was founded in the early 1900s and was headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, primarily leasing tank cars and refrigerator cars.

This 40’ wood reefer is brown with grey sides and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in the late 1920s, this car was decorated in 1934 for the Nash-Underwood Food Products Company of Chicago, and owned by North
Western Refrigerator Line. Nash-Underwood was one of the largest mustard manufacturers in the 1930s.

This 40’ wood reefer is brown with yellow sides and runs on Arch Bar trucks. Built in the late 1920s, this car was decorated for the Zion Institutions & Industries conglomerate based out Zion, Ill., and owned by Northern Refrigerator Car Company. Zion Bakery produced “delicious, healthful and economical” fig bars; one of their most popular products.

Horvitz Brothers Wholesale

This 40’ wood reefer is brown with yellow sides and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in the late 1920s, this car was decorated in 1934 for the Horvitz Brothers Wholesale Fruit and Produce Company of Chicago, and owned by North Western Refrigerator Line. Horvitz Brothers was a large distributor of onions and potatoes in the 1930s.

E. & A. Opler, Inc.

This 40’ wood reefer is brown with grey sides and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built in 1927, this car was decorated in 1934 for the “Our Mother’s” brand of hot cocoa produced by E. & A. Opler, Inc of Chicago, Ill. The car was leased to Opler by North Western Refrigerator Line. E. & A. Opler was founded in 1908 and produced some of the finest chocolates and candies in America and still exists as the “World’s Finest” brand.
