The weekly City of Los Angeles launched in May of 1936 with the Union Pacific’s revolutionary diesel streamliner M-10002. This was a joint service of the UP from LA to Omaha, and continuing with the CNW to Chicago. Locomotive service began the following year and service frequency increased to daily by 1947. In 1955, the CNW was replaced with the Milwaukee Road for the Omaha to Chicago leg, and the dome cars entered service. AZL has produced the City of Los Angeles as it appeared during its zenith in 1956. A Pennsylvania 10-6 “Rapids” series car was repainted into Armour Yellow, but with PRR lettering, for through service to New York. The New York Central also ra a through car on alternating days, but it retained NYC livery. Or AZL City of Los Angeles is a 13 cars set including baggage, baggage dormitory, two coaches, five bedroom / lounge, dome diner, dome coach, two 10-6 sleepers, 11 bedroom sleeper, 6-6-4 sleeper, 4-4-2 sleeper, and dome observation cars. Cavities in the package insert are provided for AZL E8/9 A and B locomotives (sold separately).
