ALCO PA1 Spirit of 1776 - Freedom Train Just in time for the 4th of July, the Freedom Train Alco PA1! The Freedom Train ran between 1947 and 1949 touring the United States. The trains concept was to help reeducate and share the principals that the United States was founded on. The concept came from President Truman who was a fan of the railroads. At PA1 was owned by Alco. Upon completion of the tour, this locomotive would be sold to the GM&O. Seven heavy-weight cars made up the train. All painted to match the locomotive. |
