This 40’ standard box car with double doors is brown with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks.
In an effort to develop a new paint scheme, Great Northern decorated a number of box cars in different
experimental paint schemes in 1956 and sent them across the GN network for feedback. Due to the bright
and gaudy colors, this group of cars were dubbed the “Circus Cars”.

These 40’ standard box car with plug doors are black with aluminum roof and yellow sides and run on Bettendorf trucks. It was built in 1959, as part of series 7750-7824, by C&O’s Raceland Car Shops in Raceland, KY. Rated at 50 tons, with a 3431 Cu. Ft. capacity, these cars were equipped with Pullman-Standard compartmentizers and were insulated.

These 40’ standard box car with plug doors are black with aluminum roof and yellow sides and run on Bettendorf trucks. It was built in 1959, as part of series 7750-7824, by C&O’s Raceland Car Shops in Raceland, KY. Rated at 50 tons, with a 3431 Cu. Ft. capacity, these cars were equipped with Pullman-Standard compartmentizers and were insulated.

These 40’ double-sheathed wood box cars with single door are yellow with black lettering and run on Andrews trucks. Built by the Mather Stock Car Company in 1917, this wood sheathed boxcar was leased to Muncie & Western for Ball Glass Jar service.

These 40’ standard box cars with single doors are black with red sides and circle cross logo and run on Roller Bearing trucks. This Bx-78 was outfitted with a cushioned underframe, called “Shock Control” by Santa Fe, when it was rebuilt from a Bx-38 boxcar in the 1950s. It was originally built in 1944 by GATC.

These 40’ standard box cars with single door and no roofwalk are brown with white lettering, and run on Roller Bearing trucks. Built by Pullman Standard in October of 1957 as part of series 126000-126524. It later had its roofwalk removed and continued in revenue service until the late 1970s before being relegated to MOW service.

Bettendorf trucks. As a part of NYC series 87222-87271, this appliance boxcar was specially equipped with SL load restraints. Built in 1956, it was among one of the last 40’ box cars built for NYC as railroads moved to larger, higher capacity cars in the 1960s.
